Jamie Stambolie Nelson

Jamie Stambolie Nelson is a Zimbabwean mixed-media artist from Bulawayo, currently based in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Growing up in Zimbabwe, she was influenced by the resourcefulness and creativity she encountered in everyday life. This led her to begin collecting old magazines and creating layered collages. Working primarily with paper collage and paint on canvas, her practice explores immigration, memory, renewal, hope, and the lived experiences of African immigrants living abroad.

A recurring thread in her work is the parallel between human migration and the movement of plants across geographical borders. Familiar flowers growing in foreign lands become metaphors for adaptation, belonging, and the possibility of flourishing far from home. At other times, her work explores the ordinary experiences of immigrant life through human figures, familiar objects, and everyday moments of joy, memory, and connection. Her use of reclaimed paper cut-outs, layered through collage, further echoes themes of memory, renewal, and transformation.

Nelson’s understanding of hope is deeply influenced by her Christian faith and her conviction that human beings and creation carry inherent meaning, and that one day all things will be restored. Her work has been exhibited in Puerto Rico, including at El Bastión and La Liga de Arte in Old San Juan. She has a confirmed solo exhibition, Always Connected, at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo in December 2026.

Kumbulani Zamuchiya (Zaza) is a Zimbabwean filmmaker, visual storyteller and cultural architect whose practice spans documentary film, photography, videography and cultural programming. His work explores the intersection of people, place, culture, development and contemporary African narratives.

He is the founder of Tallawah Productions and Youth On Film International (YOFI), and co-founder of the Zimbabwe Cultural Centre Detroit and 156 Tambira LAB. Through these platforms, he has developed creative programmes, supported emerging voices and facilitated cultural exchange.

Zamuchiya has worked as a filmmaker and visual storyteller with international media and development organisations including BBC World News, VOA, Sky News, TRT World and Practical Action. He has also worked in strategic communications and narrative development, including as a Communications Consultant with Hivos Southern Africa.

His practice combines documentary storytelling with a wider interest in building platforms where culture and stories can generate connection, opportunity and social impact. He holds a Diploma in Design and Fine Arts from Harare Polytechnic, with a background in painting and sculpture.
